Most people would agree that pizza is the best amazing one pot meal without a pot. When cooked on the grill it is so easy and taste so good. On one of my earlier blogs on camping I mentioned to try something on the grill that would be something other than the usual meals you would cook. This is something that is great for a camping trip or just grilling in the backyard.
After you try this once, you are sure to repeat it many times. You have many different options for the pizza dough. You can buy readymade pizza dough at the grocery store. This probably is the best option if you are on a camping trip. If you are doing this at home you could make you favorite homemade pizza dough. If you don’t have a favorite recipe, there are many different options online. Or if you have a bread machine, they make wonderful pizza dough using bread flour.
After making the pizza dough make sure you put some oil on the bottom of it. Some pizza dough will be pressed out on wax paper with oil on it or if you roll out the pizza dough put oil on the bottom. I like to make individual sizes of pizza dough about the size of a plate. I usually cook 4 at a time. Place the pizza dough on a hot grill with the oil side down and cook for about 1 to 1 ½ min. until the underside is brown. Place the uncooked side of the pizza dough onto a plate with the cooked side facing up. Add whatever you want to your specialized pizza and then place back on the grill. Place lid on top of grill and cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until cheese is melted.
Cooking tip: Set up a pizza bar and let everyone assemble their own pizza with their favorites ingredients.
Pizza Bar Suggestions:
- Three to four different cheeses
- Tomato Sauce, Pesto, Tomatoes
- Caramelized Onions and Sweet Peppers
- Three to four different meats
- Olives, Mushrooms, Artichokes, Basil, and any other favorite Spices
Just be prepared for a lot of ” mmm’s and ahh’s” for it is a good bet this will be a repeat meal at your home.
