Mason Jar Salads

Have you discovered the latest salad craze – Salad in a Jar?  If you haven’t, you are missing out on not only a delicious meal, but also a healthy, quick meal.  You will be absolutely amazed at how you can make all of your salads for a week on one day and keep them fresh until the end of the week.

The secret is in how you stack the salad in a mason jar.  There are a lot of recipes on the web.  Some are healthier than others.  These salads can be used as a side dish for dinner or can be used as a meal at lunch.  I like to use the quart size mason jars.  They are the perfect size for a salad big enough for a meal.

The main reason I love this concept is because often at night after I finish making dinner I am often tempted to skip making the salad because it involves washing and prepping so many different components.  So, instead on Sunday, (pick your own best time during the week) I just get everything prepared for making one or two different salads and line everything up on the counter and then assemble them.

Powerhouse Salads

After doing this for a couple of weeks I realized that I wanted to make salads that were even more nutritious, slimming, and energy producing. What I wanted were  powerhouse salads.

I wanted salad dressings that were healthy.  I also wanted to use the foods that would give me more energy.  Did you know some foods actually help with your energy level?  Your energy level is really important to keep that mid afternoon slump from happening.

Each salad needs to have some source of protein to keep you going.  Proteins that are yummy in salads are eggs, beans, cheese, nuts, and lean meats.  Probably any salad you would make will be better for you than a cheeseburger or a sandwich at a fast food restaurant.

But let’s take it one step further and make a super salad that is packed full of nutrients and energy.  This is process you need to understand to give yourself the best possible power packed salad.

When making a mason jar salad there are 5 important things to know:

  1. Use mason jars.  The seal on these jars will help keep everything crisp and fresh for about a week.
  2. Put the salad dressing on the bottom.
  3. Put the most dense items on the bottom and then build in order of density with the lettuce on the top.
  4. Every salad needs to have at least one or two protein items. This is so important because it will keep you from getting hunger in a couple of hours after you eat.
  5. Use ingredients that will supercharge your metabolism. Not all veggies are equal.  There is an approach to healthy cooking that will get you started right. To find out how to create the ultimate fat burning salad click here. This program also includes recipes for salad dressings that are free of chemicals, sugar and low in  fat but super delicious.

There is a lot included in this program. What I like about the salad builder (which is just one of nine separate healthy cooking guides) and the included calorie free salad dressing guides is that you have two options.  You can build your own special salad by using the ingredients guide and add your favorite salad dressing recipe or there are recipes for other salads that are easy and delicious. Just to name a few there is:

  • salad cartoonBlueberry Delight
  • Asian Salad
  • Strawberry Spinach Salad
  • Cleansing Salad
  • Thai Cobb Salad
  • Strawberry Spinach Salad
  • Waldorf Salad
  • and many, many more.

For best results, you should eat one complete meal as a salad everyday to get the optimum health benefits of all the nutrients in the power packed veggies. You will not miss how you previously ate because you will have so much more energy and feel so much better.  And, by the way,  they are so delicious you will look forward to eating them.  I sometimes will eat one for breakfast by adding a chopped up boiled egg and either some ham or turkey. The bottom line is if you incorporate these salads into your meal plan you will see astonishing  results.

But listen up:    If you are taking this to the office for lunch and you want tuna or any other seafood in your salad,  just put some in a small container to take with you to add at the last minute.  I actually wouldn’t put any type of seafood in any of these salads until your ready to eat it.  Don’t miss out on this terrific offer to start off the New Year on a healthy note and get rid of those extra holiday pounds in the process.  This is the fun way to do it!

I would love to hear from you if you have a favorite recipe that you would like to share.  It can be your own creation or one of those  provided.
